Links, Flying Spurs, Mello, A Good Last Day In Vegas August 21, 2007

Ah, it’s my last day here in Vegas and I’m gonna miss it. I’m ready to head home though, but I certainly made use of my last day. To begin I went out and played 18 holes at Steven Wynn’s famous golfcourse here in Vegas. This was my second time playing at the $500 per round course (we had our round comp’d) and it really is quite an experience. If you ever get the chance to play at the course, take it, it’s really quite amazing. It literally is an amazing first class golf course smack dab in the middle of the Vegas strip. It’s unlike anything you will probably ever see. You walk in, check in, then the incredibly kind staff takes you to the locker room, lets you rent clubs, and basically aids you with whatever you may need. Before heading out they cleaned my golf shoes, re-laced them, and got us water and drinks. You really do get the service that you pay for at the course. Because of the high price, its easy to get tee times and there usually are very few people playing at one time. And, the best part is you get a caddy to ride on the back of your golf cart and help you out. Our caddy today was a really nice guy, name’s Alexio (sorry if I spelt that wrong!). He was a great help, and had good excuses for whenever I messed up a shot (and that was often). My personal favorite would have to be, “Oh you just had a terrible lie, that’s all” when of course I had a perfect lie. So even though I didn’t play well, I shot a 109 in 18, it was a good time. And, Alexio was good for conversation, because he too is a Mac and iPhone fan. So that lightened the mood when I was basically hitting the ball every direction but straight. Sure, just talk about blogging after you slice a shot, perfect cure. So yeah, that was a pretty good start to the day. We finished 18 in about four hours, finishing up around 2PM, not bad. Especially considering that Alexio was telling us stories of groups that took seven and a half hours to play 15 holes of golf. Can you imagine? Why even bother playing?! I don’t get it, but whatever. Good start.
Golf was followed with lunch at the Terrace cafe, I believe it was called. Decent meal, expensive as everything else here at the Wynn, but pretty good. At lunch I found out that I’d be getting a ride in one of the Wynn’s Bentley Flying Spurs
through Vegas. Now that was awesome. Once the Spur’s V12 got going it threw me back into my seat, and threw a smile on my face even more so. Our driver was a cool guy and toured my family and I around downtown Vegas a bit. Alway’s interesting to hear the latest Vegas rumors about who’s building what and who’s got the most money and so on. We concluded during the ride that there is one thing that the Vegas hotshots (Wynn and the like) agree on, none of them want Donald Trump to get a gambling license. Those guys are crazy, the amount of money being thrown into luxury condos. The Wynn’s new building with 7000 rooms is already sold out! Ridiculous! When we got back to the hotel we were welcomed by a convoy of gorgeous cars. A few Rolls-Royce Phantoms were parked at the entrance and a just purchased Ferrari 360 pulled up as well. Was a good day for cars. For those interested, the Wynn is going to be replacing their Bentley’s with stretch Rolls Phantoms, crazy if you ask me, considering the cost difference. So if you’re ever staying there make sure you try and get a ride, it’s a lot of fun. Alright enough car talk, moving on. So I go back into the hotel and who do I walk past? Carmello Anthony. The barrage of NBA players continues, and it was pretty cool. I didn’t talk to him or anything unfortunately. Oh! I did get Coach Krzyzewski’s autograph. Pretty cool stuff, running into Kobe, Lebron, and Carmello in one day was pretty cool.
Finished up the day with dinner and looking at watches. I wanted to get a new watch with the money that I won, but uh, unfortunately the $200,000 watches on display, well they’re just a little bit on the pricey side. I can’t believe the price of some of the stuff here, the watches are just unreal. And personally I don’t think they even look that great. Oh well, someone’s going to buy them. Dinner was at Okada a Japanese restaurant where chef’s prepare the food in front of you. It was quite good. Again, don’t have to pay for anything, so I had the Kobe steak, and it was awesome. Also met some pretty cool people over dinner, gotta love Sake stories.
Well, that’s it for now, off to watch Flight Of The Conchords, quite possibly my favorite show right now. I would say the best show ever, but that opinion always changes, it never fufills the “ever”.
